I would love to hear some comments from her students. I always wonder exactly what is is that separates the great teachers from the simply "good." I think it really comes down to clarity of presentation, nailing down all semantics, and student empathy. At least this has been my experience when learning game programming.

Hi Liz

I agree with student empathy being critical. It is vital that teachers know and care about each student as an individual person. Beyond that I believe that the most important thing, particularly in an area like game programming, is to support your students to learn for themselves. This support can be by a range of means such as by asking appropriate questions, providing or directing students to resources or helping them connect with wider learning communities. In teaching you must take care that you do not deprive your students of the opportunity to learn for themselves.
One of the best comments I have had from students is:
"She's a good teacher, she just lets us get on with it"
